About Bass’ support of Brown
To the editor:
So Charlie Bass has endorsed Scott Brown. No surprise there. What is surprising, as quoted in the Keene Sentinel, is this: “Bass also cited Brown’s efforts to limit the scope of President Barack Obama’s signature health care law. ‘We would have single-payer, European-style health care right now if it weren’t for [Brown].’” Charlie pretends not to know any Europeans, who love their European-style health care. Americans, on the other hand, hate their health care. That’s because here in America, insurance companies still rule and health care is just a means to big profits. In Europe, health care is seen as a right for all citizens. Here, we pay a lot more to insurance companies for worse outcomes.
I have relatives and friends in different European countries. Despite the economic problems Europe is facing, not one — neither conservative nor liberal — would trade their single-payer, European-style health care for the expensive, limited, profit-based system of health care rationing we still suffer from. Charlie seems to think that if he says something stupid, Republicans will rally around him, just like they do Limbaugh, Perry and Palin. If I was tempted to think about Scott Brown as a senator, I’m not now. Maybe Charlie is angling for a job at Anthem. He’s certainly not doing Brown any favors in this neighborhood.
