Racing pigeons need our help

To the editor:

This racing season is for the birds. Racing pigeons, that is. They get taken somewhere and released to fly home. However, sometimes they get lost and need our help. They are banded with identification numbers, which can lead to their owners. If you find one, go to NHAudubon.org; click on “Ask The Naturalist” then on “Lost Bird.” That will tell what to do. They need protection, food, water and rest. I have just recently gone through the experience and developed some contacts.

If you find a bird, you may call me at 924-2275 and I will try to help you help the bird. Specifically, I am looking for a white pigeon with a blue-gray speckled head, which I rescued, sheltered, fed, watered, rested and released. It hasn’t yet made it home to Southbridge, Mass.
