Adams Pool is on my mind
To the editor:
Although I am writing this letter out of frustration and annoyance, I would like to start on a positive note. I recently visited Adams pool for the first time since the renovations and was very pleased. The water was surprisingly warm compared to previous years, the pool was very clean, and the splash pad was a huge hit for my 16 month old.
Having said all of that, I am extremely annoyed at the fact that I must pay $1 for every member of my family, after having paid my share of taxes each year, a huge portion of which goes to the Recreation Department.
I completely understand charging out of town residents, as they do not contribute with taxes. It just makes me question what exactly my tax money is used for when the Rec Department charges a fee for every service/facility they offer.
I also find it quite frustrating that the pool hours have changed this year, now closing at 6:30 p.m. on weeknights. I am sure that I am not the only working parent who gets out of work at 5 p.m. or later, and must feed their family before enjoying a swim.
It is sad that many families in the community must miss out on our town’s beautiful facility due to a simple one-hour time change. I realize that swim team needs a chance to practice, but it seems as though we could find a better time that would not take away from the many tax-paying families in town. I won’t even get started on the fact that the pool closes for the season on Aug. 16. What happened to the days where summer went until the first day of school?
