President Barack Obama easily carried New Hampshire on his way to winning a second term on Tuesday while Democrat Maggie Hassan handily defeated Republican Ovide Lamontagne in the race for governor.

The House District 2 race between Peterborough Republican Charlie Bass and challenger Ann Kuster was still too close to call by 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, but Bass was trailing throughout the evening. According to CNN's count, Bass, the incumbent, was trailing Kuster 52 percent to 43 percent with 54 percent of precincts reporting.

Hassan held a wide lead over Lamontagne -- 55 percent to 42 percent -- for the right to replace Gov. John Lynch. Obama was also carrying the state, considered among the natin's prized swing states, 52 percent to 47 percent.

More details, including results from all the Monadnock region's New Hampshire House and Senate races, will be available online throughout the day Wednesday, with full coverage in Thursday's Monadnock Ledger-Transcript.
