Letter: Hamas is patently anti-Semitic
To the editor:
In her Nov. 20 letter, Tricia Saenger ends her diatribe with “I, personally, will not be intimidated by insincere and calculated charges of ‘anti-Semitism.’”
The reader may appreciate that in a N.H. Peace Action article, Saenger was calculated and sincere enough to confess proudly that there are “very good reasons for Palestinians to vote for Hamas.”
Hamas’ Charter, Article 17, refers to “various Zionist Organizations which take on all sorts of names and shapes such as: the Freemasons, Rotary Clubs, gangs of spies and the like. All of them are nests of saboteurs and sabotage.” Articles 22 and 28 refer to the Lions Club. While such references are pathetically laughable, there is more to Hamas’ psychotic Charter. Articles 28 and 30 demand the destruction of Israel and not to co-exist with Israel. Article 7 demands the murder of every Jew on the planet and not to co-exist with Jews: “Muslims will fight the Jews (and kill them); until the Jews hide behind rocks and trees, which will cry: O Muslim! there is a Jew hiding behind me, come on and kill him!” This statement is about Jews and not the state of Israel or Zionists.
This violent, anti-Semitic statement has never been rescinded by Hamas. Article 32’s reference to the “Protocols of the Elders of Zion” to justify its hatred of Jews, a polemic used extensively by Nazis, further exposes Hamas’ anti-Semitism and not just anti-Zionism. This is the psychotic, violent anti-Semitic organization which Saenger thinks there were very good reasons for Palestinians to vote for, one whose charter demands the calculated destruction of Israel and not co-exist with Israel, one whose charter sincerely demands the murder of every Jew and not co-exist with Jews. Saenger wrote: “I, personally, will not be intimidated by insincere and calculated charges of ‘anti-Semitism.’”
