Driver who crashed into Dollar Tree uninjured

RINDGE — No one was injured when a 2005 Chevy Equinox drove into the Dollar Tree on Commercial Lane in Rindge on Tuesday afternoon, according to police.

Helen Griffin, 85, of Jaffrey was reportedly parking her car, she told police, when she attempted to hit the break, but hit the gas pedal by mistake, said Officer Jeffrey Seppala in an interview with the Ledger-Transcript on Wednesday. In hitting the accelerator, Seppala said Griffin caused the vehicle to go over a curb, a sidewalk and then hit a portion of the Dollar Tree building.

The Dollar Tree sustained damage to the a window frame, the glass and part of the exterior of the building, Seppala said.

The car sustained minor to moderate damage to the front end, but was able to be driven from the scene.

Griffin, who was wearing her seat belt at the time of the crash, was uninjured, Seppala said. He added that no one inside or outside the building was harmed.

Griffin reportedly told police she was wearing moccasin style shoes at the time of the incident and that the bottom of the moccasins were slippery, causing her to lose her gripping of the foot pedals in the car.
