Letter: Shopkeepers in Jaffrey are cool

To the editor:

For seven years, Mindfull Books & Ephemera and The Listening Room in Jaffrey have provided the Monadnock region with a cherished meeting place for book lovers, musicians and artists. I was deeply saddened to read in your paper that this joyous enterprise will end on Jan. 2, 2013.

It’s a tragedy for this entire region that Jaffrey’s small businesses falter despite their best efforts. Each independent shop strengthens the pulse of Jaffrey and helps it flourish.

Let’s reward these shopkeepers’ creativity, hard work and sheer good will. John Sepe and Martha Dawson have poured their hearts into revitalizing Jaffrey. They deserve the same openhanded support from us now. Discovering the perfect gifts in their delightful shop and attending their lively events until their Jan. 2 closing will brighten everyone’s holidays.

And let’s brainstorm how to keep Jaffrey’s coolest entrepreneurs well-occupied and well-recompensed in Jaffrey so that their inventiveness continues to benefit our community. I’m sure they’d welcome hearing your ideas. As they demonstrate every day, we all grow by giving our ingenious and wholehearted best for the common good.
