Letter: Top tax rates were high in 1960s boom
To the editor:
I would like to know why, in all this dithering about raising taxes versus cutting spending, no one talks about the fact that the economy flourished in the ‘50s and ‘60s when the top tax rates were very high.
Workers were making an actual living wage, CEOs weren’t paid so disproportionately compared to their employees, and our nation was investing in the infrastructure and research and development that still serves us today, half a century later.
Why does this subject never come up? How can we get our media and political leaders to start talking about this? It’s really frustrating.
