Conant boys cruise to road win
It wasn’t the greatest of starts for the Conant boys basketball team.
The undefeated Orioles were up just 9-8 over Hillsboro-Deering after the first quarter on Tuesday. Then it all changed. Conant outscored the Hillcats 30-6 in the second and took a commanding 25-point advantage into the half. And from there is was all Conant, as the Orioles went on to win 69-25 to improve to 3-0.
“Our goal every day is to get better and not just individually, but as a team,” said coach Eric Saucier.
As a team, Conant was just 4-for-16 from the floor in the first, but used a strong defensive effort in the second to get the offense going.
“We got a couple steals, scored a couple quick baskets and it allowed us to get into our press,” said Saucier.
Senior Devin Springfield led the way with 20 points and five rebounds. Junior Kyle Carland scored a season high 14, while Robert O’Brien added 12 and a team best eight assists. Junior Nick Panagiotes had eight off the bench.
Conant travels to Hopkinton on Friday.
