PETERBOROUGH — Firefighters put out a chimney fire at a home at the end of Old Town Farm Road early Monday afternoon.
Debby Kaiser, who lives at 180 Old Town Farm Road, said she was watching the Obama inauguration ceremonies on television when she heard a loud noise coming the chimney next to her and noticed that birds outside her window suddenly flew off. She went outside, saw smoke coming from the chimney, and called 911.
“They were here in minutes,” Kaiser said. “The message is: Get your chimney swept.”
Fire Chief Joseph Lenox said the fire was quickly brought under control. Firefighters used dried chemicals to suppress the fire at the bottom of the chimney. There was no significant damage to the house.
