Rindge man, 51, faces sexual assault charges
RINDGE — Police have charged a longtime Rindge resident with sexually assaulting a family member over a period of time in the 1990s, according to documents on file at the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey.
Jason A. Czekalski, 51, of Rindge was arrested at his home Friday and charged with two counts of felonious sexual assault and one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault, all felony-level charges, according court documents.
The victim, who is related to Czekalski by blood, was 11 years old at the time of the alleged assaults, which took place between March 27, 1993, and Dec. 27, 1995, according to a complaint filed at the court.
Rindge Police Chief Frank Morrill said in an interview with the Ledger-Transcript on Monday that the allegations against Czekalski were brought forward through the department’s formal complaint process several months ago.
“There is nothing to suggest that there is any threat of harm to the general public,” said Morrill, who declined to disclose further details about the investigation.
Rindge and state police executed a search warrant and arrest warrant at Czekalski’s home at 212 Thomas Rd. in Rindge at approximately 11:45 a.m. on Friday. “The arrest was the culmination of an ongoing investigation by the Rindge Police Department and the N.H. State Police over the past several months...,” according to a press release issued Friday.
Justice L. Phillips Runyon III of the 8th Circuit Court ordered the affidavits in support of the search warrant and arrest warrant be sealed. Rindge Sgt. Daniel Anair had requested the affidavits be sealed for a 90-day period because, according to his motion, “premature disclosure of its contents could compromise this ongoing investigation.”
Czekalski was arraigned at the 8th Circuit Court on Friday afternoon and, as of press time Monday, was being held in lieu of $5,000 cash at the Cheshire County House of Corrections. A probable causing hearing is scheduled for Jan. 29 at 11 a.m. at the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey.
In October 2012, Jaffrey police arrested Czekalski’s son, Luke Czekalski, 26, of Rindge, and charged him with two counts of aggravated felonious sexual assault, fondling, and one count of aggravated felonious sexual assault, statutory rape.
The latter charge was not carried forward, following a probable cause hearing at the 8th Circuit Court in Jaffrey on Nov. 8.
Luke Czekalski is charged with sexually assaulting a girl he reportedly knew and was between the ages of 6 and 13 in Jaffrey between Sept. 1 and Oct. 9, according to court documents.
Luke Czekalski’s case has since been forwarded to the Cheshire County Superior Court in Keene, which has the authority to hear felony cases. He is being held in lieu of $10,000 cash at the county jail.
