Final tune-up before the D-II championships

Members of the Conant and Mascenic swim teams got one final chance to swim on Saturday before the Division II Championships next weekend.

The Orioles hosted a five-team meet at the Clark Memorial Pool on Winchendon, Mass. with many swimmers still trying to qualify for the state meet. But when the day was done, only the four previous qualifiers were able to reach the standards set forth by the swimming committee.

Conant sophomore Katie L’Ecuyer set season-best times for both of the events she will swim next Saturday at the University of New Hampshire. L’Ecuyer won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:32.88 and the 100-breaststroke in 1:19.77.

Mascenic freshman Briana Boulerice, who has qualified for four events, swam to a pair of runner-up finishes on Saturday in the 100-yard backstroke, 1:12.48, and the 200-freestyle, 2:19.51.

Conant senior Kory Patten captured a pair of wins in the 200 and 500-yard freestyle events in 2:08.29 and 5:59.63 respectively. Conant senior Kali Mailhot finished second in the 100-yard butterfly, the only event she has qualified for, in 1:09.78 and second in the 500-freestyle.

Mascenic senior Shawn Thibault came up just short in his bid to qualify in the 100-breaststroke, finishing third in 1:18.07. He was also fifth in the 50-free. Conant senior Stephanie Simoneau was third in the 100-backstroke and fourth in the 100-freestyle.

Mascenic’s Kailey Allen placed third in the 50-free.
