Letter: Shingle shot sticker shock
To the editor
You have all seen the TV spot urging that we get vaccinated against shingles. At the advice of our Primary Care Physician, my wife and I each got the shot during a routine visit to the doctor’s office.
What nobody — in the TV spot or at the doctor’s office — told us was that the vaccine is expensive, almost $300 for each shot, and that Medicare doesn’t cover the procedure. We have been billed over $600.
So this is to let others know to check the cost, shop around, and see if a prescription assistance plan will help pay for non-Medicare-covered vaccines.
