Valentine-themed jazz playing on Feb. 17, Peterborough Historical Society

A concert of Valentine-themed jazz standards, led by singer Stephanie Hurley, will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Monadnock Center for History & Culture (Peterborough Historical Society).

Hurley specializes in jazz standards of the ’30s and ’40s to swing versions of pop songs. She will be accompanied by pianist Bob Pettegrew and saxophonist Mike Wakefield.

Pettegrew’s playing reflects the stride-base style of Teddy Wilson, mixed with more modern jazz improvisation.

Wakefield, on clarinet, flute and saxophone, will add his own unique interpretation of the selections a la Benny Goodman and Coleman Hawkins.

Concert goers who dine at the Waterhouse restaurant will further benefit the Monadnock Center for History & Culture. The restaurant will be donating 10 percent of the days proceeds to the Center.

Tickets are $15 ($12 for members, seniors and students) and are available online at www.peterboroughhistory.org or at the center’s office during open hours, Wednesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
