Big savings from recycling

Residents of Peterborough and Sharon recycled more than 76 tons during the month of January, according to Scott Bradford, Peterborough’s recycling manager.

The recycling totals, measured in tons, included newspaper (4.48), cardboard (7.8), mixed paper (17.16), plastics (2.31), aluminum cans (0.4), steel cans (1.32), food waste (1.33), glass (31.5), textiles (5.58), auto batteries (2.1) and electronics (2.75).

According to Bradford, the recyling totals helped the town avoid paying $8,363.57 in disposal fees in January. Plus, it generated $8,529.92 in revenue for the month.

He also noted that the recycling center is once again offering systern rain barrels, compost bins, and kitchen scrap pails for sale through March 15. If you would like more information and /or an order form, please contact the Peterborough Recycling Center at 924-8095.
