The ConVal Nordic ski team will make the trip to Gorham on Wednesday for the Division II Championships.

The meet will be held at Great Glen Trails Outdoor Center, beginning at 9:30 a.m.

And having spent most of the season traveling to meets with the other seven Division II schools, the Cougars are quite familiar with the competition.

Junior Sydney Michalak has been consistently among the best skiers in the state and should be in the running for the individual title.

She raced against the fastest and most experienced in Division II all year and finished well in every race. Michalak owns four wins this season, three other top three finishes and also took eighth in the first NH Coaches Series race.

And she won’t be the only one expected to do well.

Junior Ben Wescott has led the team in every race he has entered and will also be looking to improve on his bronze medal in last year’s skimeister competition, which combines a skier’s finish in the alpine and Nordic disciplines at the state meet level.

Junior Rowan Wilson has been a nice addition to the girls team after moving into the district from Maine this year. She finished in the top 20 in almost every race and is getting better each time on the snow. Senior Annie Williams has shown great improvement this season and is really helping the overall scoring.

Tyler Aborn is a solid No. 2 for the Cougars, usually finishing in the top spot when Wescott is not at a race. Jimmy Gombas and August Bomer-Lawson will try and help ConVal to a high team finish.

The Cougars will ski a 4-kilometer race in each the classic and freestyle disciplines.

The top 10 finishers in each race for boys and girls will move on to Meet of Champions on Feb. 23 at the Plainfield Elementary School.
