ConVal will send seven wrestlers to Saturday’s Meet of Champions at Pinkerton Academy after the group qualified last weekend at the Division II Championships.

The top five wrestlers from D-II advanced to the state meet, along with the top six from Division I and three from D-III. The top two in each weight class from Division I earned a seeding, as did the champions from D-II and III.

So junior Adam Smullen will be the only seeded wrestler for the Cougars this weekend after four earned rankings for the Division II Championships. Smullen is coming off his first individual state title at 160 pounds, improving from third last year. Smullen, who was 2-2 at states in 2012, earned his championship on Saturday with a 3-0 record, each win coming by pin.

Senior Jesse Mitchell finished second at 138 pounds, losing to two-time champion Peter Shea of Goffstown in the finals. Mitchell was 2-1 at the Division II meet with his first win being the 100th of his career. Mitchell is only the fourth wrestler to reach triple digits in victories and is tied with 2012 graduate Dan Smullen for third all-time with 101 victories.

Senior DJ Colburn also placed second at 113 pounds, just one year after winning the only individual D-II title for ConVal. Colburn, who left the team for part of the season, has only wrestled in five matches and owns a 4-1 record.

Freshman Josh Curran held true to his seeding on Saturday by placing fourth at 145 pounds with a 2-2 record. Junior Mike Allen battled back from an early loss to finish fourth at 132 pounds, while junior Zach Davis also placed fourth with two wins at. Sophomore Jake Rupp grabbed the last qualifying spot at 152 pounds.

ConVal also had seven qualify last year.

The top three from NH move on to New Englands.
