Borromeo plays Beethoven, Sunday, at First Church in Jaffrey
The Borromeo String Quartet will perform three of Ludwig van Beethoven’s string quartet compositions at the First Church in Jaffrey on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
This concert will feature Quartets #10 (Op. 74), the “Harp” Quartet, in E flat Major; #11 (Op. 95)”Serioso”, in F minor; and #12, (Op. 127) in E flat Major. Together these quartets trace the transition from the composer’s heroic, very public stance in his “middle period” to the intensely personal “late period” when he abandoned the conventions of musical form that had governed him for much of his life. From Opus 95 onward each work was unique in concept.
The impact of Beethoven’s stylistic journey was profound: few composers that worked in the tradition afterwards were not in some way responding to the challenge presented by his quartets.
This is the second in a series of five programs presented by Electric Earth Concerts which will feature the Borromeo String Quartet playing the entirety of the Beethoven string quartets.
Tickets are $25. For reservations, contact Electric Earth Concerts at firstname.lastname@example.org, or call Miki Osgood at 593-5245.
