Conant boys capture state basketball title

The Conant boys basketball team used a dominating fourth quarter to pull away from Campbell and capture the program's 10th state title on Saturday at Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester.

Junior Robert O'Brien scored 21 points to lead Conant, which turned a seven-point lead at the start of the fourth quarter into a 66-46 win over Campbell in the Division III state title game.

Senior Jake Carlson scored 12 points, 8 of which came in the decisive fourth quarter. The Campbell defense put its focus on stopping Conant senior Devin Springfield, the team's leading scorer who earlier this season joined the school's 1,000-point career scoring list. Springfield was held to 10 points, but he added nine rebounds and five steals to cap his career. Junior Kyle Carland also scored 10 points as Conant finished its season with a 21-1 record. The team's lone loss came against Campbell in January.

Full coverage from the championship game will appear in Tuesday's Ledger-Transcript.
