Letter: Articles will clarify police issue
To the editor:
This past summer up to 60 Lyndeborough citizens met on three different occasions in the Town Hall Auditorium concerning actions by the Board of Selectmen regarding the Lyndeborough Police Department.
Warrant Articles 17 and 18 (Petition) came out of these citizens meetings. Article 17 describes an interviewing and vetting process for the hiring of the next commanding officer of the Lyndeborough Police Department. A thorough structured process is very important, without one, an individual could be hired in any fashion. The Budget Committee is not supporting this article, as I understand, based on information given them by the selectman member of the Budget Committee. The Selectmen are not supporting it also. Article 18, appointment of a Police Chief has no recommendation from the Budget Committee or the Selectmen as this Article does not ask to raise an appropriation. However, both Selectman Byam and Boette both stated at the selectmen’s meeting of August 8, 2012, in response to Bob Rogers’ question, that they would honor the vote on this Petition Warrant Article.
These above issues were and are very important to the citizens of Lyndeborough and your police department. Please attend the town meeting on March 16 at Citizens Hall and express your opinion on these warrant articles. Please stay until the meeting is adjourned so that you may be aware of all that transpires.
