Mascenic kicks off track season

The Mascenic track and field team began its season on Tuesday with a meet at Campbell.

Senior Elizabeth McGurk could not have asked for a better start to her final track season. McGurk won all three events she entered and qualified for the Division III Championships in two of them.

McGurk ran a 12:44 in the 3,200 meters and 5:57 in the 1,600 meters to grab a pair of qualifying wins and also took home a victory in the 800. She was just three seconds off the pace she set at last year’s Division III Championships in the 3,200.

Sophomore Tim Fafard won the boys 1,600 meters in a time of 5:01 and also cemented his spot for the divisional meet in May.

Freshman Avery Traffie finished second in the 3,200 meters and was fourth in the 1,600. Sophomore Shaina Reynolds finished third overall in the girls 100-meter hurdles.

The Vikings will next travel to Sant Bani on April 11 before making their first of two trips to Conant on April 13.
