Peterborough Historic dinner themed for 1800

The annual Historic Dinner benefit at the Monadnock Center for History and Culture will be held Saturday, April 13, at 6 p.m.

The dinner’s focus will be 1800, the year our Phoenix Mill House was built. The event will explore eating, food preparation and social customs from that long ago era. The menu has been drawn from historic cookbooks and features authentic dishes that would have been served in 1800.

The historic dinner begins with a wine reception held in the Phoenix Mill House, a foreman’s home from the Phoenix textile mill that once occupied the corner of Main and Grove streets.

The meal, served in Bass Hall, features a soup course of corn chowder served with anadama bread and ‘emptyings’ biscuits, followed by pork and apple pie, baked fish with lobster sauce, roasted root vegetable hash and fried cucumbers. The evening will finish with Dr. Zabdiel Boylston’s honeycomb pudding and rice pudding served with coffee and tea.

Tickets are $50 and all proceeds benefit the operating fund. Tickets are available at the Monadnock Center at the Peterborough Historical Society or online at MonadnockCenter.org.
