Project Shakespeare will be celebrating William Shakespeare’s birthday with “Speak, Drink and Be Merry,” an evening of song, speeches and scenes, on Tuesday, beginning at 7 p.m.

The purpose of this event is to raise needed funds for the project’s 2013 summer season expansion to two plays — “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” and “Hamlet.”

Project Shakespeare transforms lives through theater education as demonstrated in the following remarks.

Former student Alexandra Hanson, now a New York City policy director at the N.Y. State Association for Affordable Housing, said, “Project Shakespeare has been one of the most powerful and valuable experiences of my life.”

Hannah Bush, a senior at Monadnock Regional High School in Swanzey, says, “Project Shakespeare has shown me that with enough determination, I can and will achieve my dreams.” Genna Weidner, a sophomore at ConVal High School says, “I learned so much about myself, theater and life.”

The fundraiser will be held at the Monadnock Inn. The bar will open at 5:30 p.m. for those who want to purchase drinks and dinner.

Admission to the event is $15 for adults, $25 for couples, $10 for students, and includes the entertainment and complimentary birthday cake.

A Globe Pass is $35 for adults; $50 for couples and $20 for students.

The pass includes the entertainment, complimentary cake and the ability to adopt a Shakespearean character from either “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” or “Hamlet.”

Pass holders will receive adoption papers telling them all about the adopted character and recognition in the 2013 summer program.

They also will be able to have photos taken with their adopted character; borrow “frippery” from the Shakespearean costume rack; and receive “groundling” appetizers.

To make reservations for the event, call the Monadnock Inn at 532-7800.
