Vikings score 22 in opening victory
The Mascenic softball team used a pair of big innings to earn a 22-4 season-opening win over Hinsdale on Wednesday.
The Vikings trailed 4-3 after the fourth, but pounded out 10 runs in the fifth to take a nine-run advantage, and they added nine more in the seventh to end all chances of a Pacers’ comeback.
Senior Katelynn Kelleher picked up the win, striking out four over her seven innings. Kelleher issued three walks, but none of the four runs was earned.
Kelleher was also one of four players with three hits on the afternoon. Senior Erin Scollans, Emily Rines and Casey Wayrynen also had three base hits. Amber Salo led the way with four runs scored.
Monday’s game against rival Conant was moved to next Monday and the Vikings travel to Monadnock on Wednesday.
