Tonyai dominates once again

Conant senior wins 100 and 200 meters, as girls team finishes in a tie for third

Fresh off her first two wins of the season, Conant senior Katie Tonyai once again made quick work of the competition at Monadnock on Tuesday.

Tonyai won the 100- and 200-meter sprinting events and helped the Oriole girls finish in a tie for third overall at the eight-team meet.

Tonyai posted a time of 13.0 seconds in the 100, defeating teammate Shannia Aho by 0.96 seconds. Tonyai ran a time of 26.22 seconds in the 200. Last year, Tonyai won both the 100 and 200 at the Division III Championships and finished runner-up in the 400. She went on to place sixth in the 200 and 400 at Meet of Champions.

In addition to Aho’s runner-up performance in the 100, the Conant junior was also third in the 200 with a time of 28.76.

Conant senior Noah Miller also had a good day, as the boys finished sixth. Miller took runner-up in the 1,600 meters in 5:01.09 and was also second in the 800, 2:15.28.

Miller led a strong Conant group in the 800. Junior Tyler Desmaris was fourth, 2:23.17, followed by Colby Whitcomb in sixth and Kyle Moreau in eighth. Moreau and Whitcomb also placed sixth and seventh in the 1,600.

Brittany Rich, a senior, finished runner-up in the discus with a distance of 74 feet, 11 inches, third in the shot put, 25 feet, 5.25 inches, and fifth in the javelin.

Senior Margaret Maloy reached seven feet, six inches in the pole vault to finish second.

Junior Kaleigh Johnson placed third in the girls 1,600 meters in a time of 6:23.92 and was also fifth in the shot put.

Justin Hasse had a second straight strong performance in the throwing events. He took third in the shot put with a push of 36 feet, 6.5 inches and sixth for the discus, 93 feet, six inches.

Junior Eli Hodgson finished fifth in the javelin, throwing for 110 feet, seven inches.

Coming off a win in the high jump at Saturday’s season opener, sophomore Nathan Wheeler finished seventh on Tuesday.

Freshman Aaron Bresnick placed fourth in the 200 in 25.75, and 6th in the 400 in 57.94.

Conant travels to Merrimack Valley on Saturday.
