Cornucopia Project

His is a tireless dedication  to community

Meas Roeun’s dedication to the Town of Peterborough is evident in his daily life. Not only is he a town employee, but his community volunteer efforts are exceptional. We experienced this firsthand during the construction of the Cornucopia Community Garden at the Peterborough Community Center, where he was one of more than 100 volunteers who helped build the garden last year.

He approached our organization early on, offering his help in any way that was needed, and began assisting during scheduled work days, building the garden shed. He was among the “regular” work crew (led by another town employee, Dario Carrara), who spent countless Saturday mornings, often in 90 degree heat, to turn lumber into a beautiful garden shed.

Meas didn’t stop there in his efforts. He would often call to say that he was going to work on the shed after he got out of work, bringing his own tools and equipment. I remember one phone call on a weekday when he stated he wanted to “finish something up.” When asked why he wasn’t working, he said “I have the day off.”

This humble man has been a volunteer with the Peterborough Fire Department for 22 years, and has been employed by the Peterborough Highway Department for 26 years. He moved to Peterborough in 1985 from his homeland of Cambodia. We are glad he did! Meas is the kind of individual that makes Peterborough such a great place to live.
