Doyle dominates as CV wins third in a row
Senior strikes out 13, gives up three hits in complete game
ConVal senior Taylor Doyle dominated in his second start of the season on Friday and it translated into a third straight victory for the ConVal baseball team, as the Cougars defeated John Stark 5-2.
ConVal scored four times in the top of the first and that was all Doyle would need.
Junior Mathias Fressilli led off the game with a double and subsequent singles from Chris Queen and Ivon Clough loaded the bases. Senior Harrison LeFlem laced a ground rule double to score two runs and Zach Mackey followed with a two-run single.
Doyle pitched all seven innings, striking out a career high 13 Generals and allowed just three hits. Both John Stark runs in the fourth were unearned.
“Taylor pitched really well,” said Marschok. “They never really threatened against him.”
ConVal added one in the fifth for a three-run lead.
“We had some other chances with two outs, but we didn’t get the extra hits,” said Marschok.
Clough and Mackey each finished with two hits, as ConVal improved to 4-2 entering Monday’s contest with Division III Monadnock. It was ConVal’s third win by three runs or less.
The Cougars will host Hollis/Brookline today in a rematch of an April 17 meeting won by the Cavaliers, 3-1.
