Sweep of Stevens puts Conant at 5-2

Orioles win 9-0 despite 12-day layoff

The Conant girls tennis team got back to work on Monday after a 12-day layoff and defeated Stevens 9-0.

It was just the Orioles’ second sweep of the season and kept them in sixth place in Division III with a 5-2 mark prior to Wednesday’s trip to White Mountains.

“We’re in sixth place and that’s exciting,” said coach Jody Baker. “We’re feeling good about it.”

The Bennett sisters, No. 1 Allina and No. 3 Shannon, each won 8-0. Courtney Dillon, Conant’s No. 2, won 8-3, while the bottom three players in the lineup, Vickie Roach, Ashley Rogers and Hannah Clark all cruised 8-1.

Allina Bennett and Dillon combined for an 8-2 victory at No. 1 doubles, while Shannon Bennett and Rogers, as well as Roach and Clark, each won 8-0.

“It was a pretty clean sweep for us,” said Baker.

The Orioles play at Stevens on Friday.
