CV wins 2nd in a row

McCole scores five goals in 13-10 victory over Lebanon

The ConVal boys lacrosse team seems to have a knack for rallying in close games.

For the second straight contest, the Cougars watched a comfortable third quarter lead get all too close before finding a way to win.

On Tuesday, ConVal led Lebanon 9-5 with six minutes left in the third quarter before a pair of Raiders’ goals cut the advantage in half. This time though, that was as close as the Cougars’ opponent would get. Unlike last Friday’s game when Stevens erased ConVal’s four-goal second half lead, the Cougars scored four of the next six goals and went on to win 13-10.

“The confidence is beginning to build,” said coach Pete Ketchum. “They showed their character in the fourth quarter.”

The victory improved ConVal to 3-3 on the season heading into Friday’s rematch with Monadock. The Cougars dropped the season opener at Monadnock, 13-3.

Junior Riordan McCole had his best offensive game of the year, finishing with a career high five goals to go along with two assists.

Sophomore Patrick Joseph added a hat trick and an assist and junior Isaiah Taylor scored twice with a team best four assists. Nick Phillips, Stephen Twitchell and Erik Leger each added a goal.

Junior Sean Stinehour made 19 saves over the final three quarters in relief of sophomore Jason Haley.

“It was a good win and the boys played well,” said Ketchum.
