Fire awareness saved our facility
To the editor;
On Wed., May 1, we were the fortunate recipients of support from eight local volunteer fire departments. When the call was made by Scott Quiltey, who happened to be driving by our facility, reporting that there was excessive smoke coming from our facility, the volunteer firefighters from the towns of Francestown, Greenfield, Peterborough, Antrim, Lyndeborough, Bennington, Hancock and Jaffrey, were on the scene within minutes.
There are those people who quietly touch and affect our lives, who serve as our guardian angels. Scott Quiltey happens to be ours at New England Forest Products. There is history with Scott, dating back to the tornado that visited our mill in 1997. Scott arrived at our facility the morning after the tornado, with generator in tow. No questions asked.
And now, he happens to be the one driving by our mill, and has his attention caught by the smoke. He could have driven on by, but his awareness of something being amiss saved this facility.
So, our heartfelt thanks go to Scott for his keen sense of awareness and quick action; and to the wonderful members of the eight volunteer fire departments who arrived on the scene and extinguished the fire before extensive damage occurred … those volunteers who serve without hesitation.
We are so very fortunate to live where we do.
