WLC finishes in top 2
Warriors drop finale 7-6 to Hinsdale
The Wilton Lyndeborough softball team dropped its regular season finale to Hinsdale 7-6 on Wednesday to finish 13-3 overall.
The Warriors would have earned the top seed in Division IV outright with a win over the Pacers. Instead WLC had to wait and see the result of Colebrook and White Mountains on Friday. A Colebrook loss would have given the Warriors the No. 1 seed in D-IV. WLC was guaranteed a top two spot.
WLC has been the No. 1 seed in each of the last 10 D-IV tournaments and went undefeated last year in winning the seventh title in program history.
The loss to the Pacers snapped a six-game losing streak, where the Warriors had scored at least 12 runs a game. But WLC did not have a chance for its final two at bats after thunder and rain caused the game to be called after five innings.
Senior Andrea Heck went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and freshman Ally Schwab also had two hits.
Junior Sami Bosquet gave up four hits over 31∕3 innings of relief, recording her first out with the bases loaded in the second.
In the season opener, the Warriors allowed Hinsdale to score 19 runs in one inning in a 20-15 loss. The only other defeat came to Pittsfield May 6.
