New Englands marks end of outdoor season
Conant senior Katie Tonyai and ConVal senior Tom Hughes wrapped up their high school track and field careers on Saturday at the New England Interscholastic Outdoor Championships at Willow Brook Park in New Britain, Conn.
Mascenic sophomore Tim Fafard and Wilton-Lyndeborough sophomore Jordan Litts made their first trips to the regional meet for outdoor track, while ConVal junior Coty Cadorette did not compete after qualifying in the shot put.
It was Tonyai’s third trip to New Englands, as she competed in a pair of sprinting events. Tonyai, who won Division III titles in the 100 and 200 meters, finished 22nd in the 200 in 26.49 seconds and 23rd in the 100 with a time of 12.86. She was third from NH in the 200, her same finish at Meet of Champions, and fourth in the 100.
Hughes finished 20th overall in the boys discus with a throw of 137 feet, five inches. He was third overall from New Hampshire after placing fifth at Meet of Champions. Hughes took second in the event at the Division II Championships.
Fafard placed 20th in the boys 3,200 meters with a time of 9:54.53. He was ranked first in D-III most of the season in the event and went on to win the 3,200 meters at the Division III championships on May 25. Fafard took runner-up at Meet of Champions, but was fourth from NH on Saturday.
Litts, who won the D-III title in the high jump, did not reach the six foot starting height. He was fifth at Meet of Champions.
