Congratulations ConVal Class of 2013, I applaud you all on your achievements and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

We’ve come so far and have so far yet to go. I’m sure we all have interesting and unique lives ahead of us. I give my sincere thanks to everyone who has set me on the path to mine.

Beginning this summer, I will spend the 2013-2014 year in India as part the Rotary Youth Exchange Program.

To go abroad on this gap year, I have deferred my enrollment at Northeastern University in Boston.

When I return, I will study international relations and concentrate on pre-veterinary studies.

In India, I will attend a local school, live with different host families, and experience the varying languages, religions and cultures of this colorful country that is soon to be my home. My city, Bharuch, is located in the state of Gujarat on the west coast, south of Pakistan and beside the Arabian Sea.

Known as the second oldest city in India and a historic port on the holy river Narmada, Bharuch is also considered a great example of religious harmony and communal equality.

The area is also known for its excellent food, something I much look forward to.

Of course, I will have ample opportunity to travel around the rest of the country on
the tours that rotary offers
for all the students staying
in India from around the world.

I could not be more excited to experience this vibrant, captivating land and meet its amazing people.

Cheers to everyone I’m leaving in the states — I’ll be in touch in the future!

Megan Jones is a 2013 graduate of ConVal High School.
