Police nab vandal suspect

A 19-year-old Greenfield man is facing a criminal mischief and drug charges after he allegedly spray-painted graffiti at the Wilder-Rotary Park on Hunt Road.

Police Chief Scott Guinard said Officer George Xenakis went to the park at about 8 p.m., after a Hunt Road resident reported encountering a man who was spray-painting on a concrete structure at the park. Xenakis arrested Michael Anfuso, 19, of Greenfield and charged him with criminal mischief and possession of a controlled drug.

Anfuso was booked at the police station and released on $1,000 personal recognizance. He has a July 15 court date in 8th Circuit Court, Jaffrey.

On Wednesday, Peterborough Public Works Director Rodney Bartlett said black paint was sprayed on the inside of a 6-foot by 6-foot, 7-foot tall concrete bunker next to the North Dam at the park. He said the bunker may have once housed a pump for the dam. The graffiti can be painted over fairly easily, because it’s on a concrete surface, Bartlett said.

He estimated the cost of the cleanup at $125.
