Biking for a cause

Elementary school principal fundraising

PETERBOROUGH —Peterborough Elementary School Principal Ben Loi will be biking about 240 miles this weekend, as he takes part in the Trans NH Bike ride to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association and the Hope for Gus Foundation, named after one of Loi’s students, Gus Dreher.

The three-day ride starts Friday at the Canadian border, with the first 100-mile leg running to Littleton. On Saturday, riders will go 75 miles to Laconia and the ride ends in Portsmouth after a 65-mile leg on Sunday.

Loi said Gus has been diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, a degenerative disease that’s the leading genetic killer of children in the world. Funds raised will benefit the foundation Gus’s parents have set up to fund research into the disease.

“It’s a way to support a really great kid,” Loi said Tuesday.

Anyone wishing to donate may contact Loi at the elementary school at 924-3828.
