Fairy houses set up  downtown Saturday

The Mariposa Museum and the Monadnock Center for History and Culture will hold a Fairy House Day featuring a tour of fairy houses on the Monadnock Center grounds and in its museum on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can make fairy crafts at the center and the Mariposa Museum, sample fairy treats and march in a fairy parade. Parade participants will gather in Bass Hall at the Monadnock Center at 10:30 a.m. and parade up Grove Street to Putnam Park.

Businesses throughout the downtown are joining with fairy houses, fairy doors and fairy activities. A Fairy Passport will guide visitors to all the fairy activities in town. Get the passport stamped at each business and be eligible to win a door prize. Passports are $5.

Participants can also build their own fairy house. Fairy houses can be made from natural materials like bark, sticks, acorns and leaves. If you need inspiration, visit FairyHouses.com to see pictures and read about various techniques. Build your house on a sturdy base of wood or cardboard so that it is easy to transport and deliver your fairy house to the Monadnock Center at 19 Grove Street before 3 p.m. on Friday.

The cost is $5 per family. For more information, visit MonadnockCenter.org or call 924-3235.
