Redfern Arts season begins Sept. 12
The 2013-14 season at the Redfern Arts Center, running from September to March, will open Sept. 12 with a season review party at 4:30 p.m.
The kick-off event is free and will be held in the Alumni Recital Hall. There will be food, a lobby exhibit and live performances by the Sandglass Theater, KSC’s comedy troupe 3 Ways ’Til Sunday, and the departments of music, dance and theater.
The season includes performances of dance, puppetry, music, and a circus show.
The season begins on Sept. 20 at 7:30 p.m. with the Donal Fox Inventions Trio performing classical jazz. A workshop titled “The Art of Improvisation” will be led by Donal Fox at 2 p.m.
On Oct. 2, The Living Word Project will present “Word Becomes Flesh,” which uses poetry, dance, hip-hop theater, and live music to document nine months of pregnancy. And on Oct. 15, the Pilobolus Dance Theater performance will include an after-show talk back.
The Debo Band will present a concert of Ethiopian pop music on Nov. 6, and Redfern choreographer-in-residence Rebecca Stenn will perform a modern dance program on Jan. 27.
Cirque Alfonse will be on stage Feb. 1 performing acrobatic feats to the sounds of Quebecois folk music. On Feb. 4 the Doug Elkins Dance troupe will present the world premiere of “Hapless Bizarre.”
Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem will present a concert of American roots music on Feb. 22, and the Sandglass Theater will present “D-Generation: An Exaltation of Larks” with puppets and their caretakers on March 4.
