National Day of Service is Sept. 11

To the editor:

We would like to inform military veterans and their families living in the Monadnock region that Monadnock RSVP Volunteer Center is coordinating a National Day of Service as an extension of our on-going Veterans Helping Veterans Program. This one-day work event will take place on Sept. 11.

The focus of this work-day is to help veterans and military family members who for reasons of income, disability, and/or aging are not able to perform certain types of physical work around their homes and properties. Our goal is to send in able, willing military veterans to complete assigned home-based projects. There is no cost for labor. However, any materials needed for the work will be the responsibility of the recipient.

Day-long projects may include end-of-summer landscape clean-up, washing and placing of storm windows and doors, minor carpentry repairs, or stacking of cordwood for the winter. There may be other needs not yet identified, and we will welcome and consider alternative requests.

We are asking those veterans that can use help to contact us so that we may schedule the volunteers and the resources required to meet this need. Also, if readers of this letter know of family, friends or neighbors that could benefit from this work-day we request that you give them my contact information, and nudge them to get in touch with me personally.

Our ultimate goal is to honor and support our veterans in this basic, close-to-home way. Please contact me at 924-7350, or by email at:
