Time for the fun to start
Fall sports are right around the corner
If you listen closely, you can almost hear the sounds many high school sports fans have been waiting months for.
Preseason practice has begun.
After football teams around the state opened camp last Wednesday, the remaining fall sports teams began preparing for the upcoming season on Monday.
And before you know it, those two-a-day practices will turn into games. It won’t be long before we all get our fix.
The fall season is always unique. Not only does it mean the long haul of the school year is about to begin, but with it brings some mystery.
There will be a new group of seniors — and freshmen as well — to change the dynamic of each and every team. The seniors will assume new leadership roles, juniors and sophomores will look to make a bigger impact and the freshmen will try and prove they belong.
Over the next few months, a lot will come into focus.
But over the next four papers, starting Thursday, we will bring you complete preseason coverage of the four local high schools’ teams, as well as those from Franklin Pierce University. It is something new we are trying and it should give you all the information you need to be ready for the first day of the fall season on Aug. 29.
On Thursday, you will find a complete listing of the high school schedules, from football to cross-country and everything in between. Next Tuesday, Aug. 27, we will cover boys and girls soccer, golf and cross-country. And on Aug. 29, we’ll dive into the local football, field hockey and girls volleyball teams.
We’ll take a look at the players who will step up to fill voids due to graduation, any coaching changes and the prospects of a playoff run for each team.
And on Tuesday, Sept. 3, we will take a look at FPU’s fall teams and what is in store for the Ravens between September and November.
It’s hard to believe that the fall season is only nine days away. It does not seem all that long ago that the ConVal softball and Conant baseball teams were winning state championships and I was wrapping up another year.
But if you are like me, I bet you can’t wait for it all to begin.
