Francestown 5 race set for Labor Day

The annual Francestown 5 Labor Day road race will be held Sept. 2 at 9:15 a.m.

The five-mile race is one of two options for runners, as there will also be Buzzy’s 5K fun run at 8:45 a.m. And a children’s run will be held at 8:15 a.m.

The course, made up of gravel and paved roads, begins 1/3-mile from the town center on Route 136 and ends in the center of town.

The cost for the five-mile race or the 5K is $22 with a T-shirt and $12 without. The children’s run is $10 with a T-shirt and free without.

T-shirt orders are required by Friday to ensure delivery for race day.

Race day registrations will be accepted until 8:30 a.m. with pre-registration check-in also required by that time.

Former Mascenic runner Tim Pipp set the men’s record in the five-mile race in 2011 with a time of 26 minutes and 36 seconds. The women’s record has stood since 2004, when Raelyn Coates ran the course in 31:02.

Last year, 93 runners competed in the five-mile road race with David Herr of Canaan, Vt. winning in 28:45.

Sarah Uhl was the second female and top Francestown finisher in 10th place.
