ANTRIM — The new police station is well on its way to being completed by its projected end date of January 2014 with no issues so far, Town Administrator Galen Stearns said in an interview Wednesday.

“It’s been going great, we’ve been very pleased with all the contractors,” Stearns said. “It’s moving along well.”

Construction of the new station began July 21 and so far, Stearns said the progress of its construction continues to be good.

He said the new station’s walls are now up and the construction crew is currently working on the interior.

From speaking with contractors, Stearns said he expects they will have the tresses and sheeting on the roof done by the Sept. 12 or 13.

According to Police Chief Scott Lester, a new police station started being discussed in the early 2000s by members of the police and fire departments, long before Lester joined the Police Department in 2008.

“They’re on schedule right now,” Lester said regarding the construction process. “The completion date for the new station is still expected to be the second week of January.”

Lester concurred with Stearns that the construction process is going well and that all the companies and contractors involved with this project are doing professional work.
