Recycling saved town big money

To the editor:

Thanks to the recycling efforts of Peterborough residents, we recycled 89.19 tons in July.

In tons, this included newspapers (5.12 tons), cardboard (7.8), mixed paper (17.94), plastics (3), aluminum cans (0.6), steel cans (0.88), food waste (1.08), glass (31.5), textiles (7.44), electronics (2.47) and tires (11.36).

By recycling a total of 89.19 tons, residents avoided paying $9,721.71 in disposal fees this month (=$109/ton x 89.19 tons of recyclables). Plus it generated $4,306.70 in revenue this month.

I want to thank you for saving all of us $14,028.41 in disposal fees and doing your part in preserving our natural resources.
