Elite athletes  compete for cause

To the editor:

On behalf of Crotched Mountain’s Accessible Recreation and Sports (CMARS) program we want to thank everyone involved in the 7th Annual Hampshire 100 which took place at Oak Park in Greenfield on August 17 and 18. Close to 430 elite athletes from across the U.S. and Canada as well as local and regional competitors raced in these premier ultra-endurance mountain bike races (100 mile and 100 kilometer), 100 kilometer endurance trail run, and cyclocross and short track races.

As the primary beneficiary of this event, we are very thankful to the organizers, including Randi Whitney, event director with the Eastern Fat Tire Association, the Greenfield Trails Association, and everyone who sponsors, participates in and volunteers at the races. Proceeds specifically support CMARS, a program of the Crotched Mountain Rehabilitation Center, which brings people with disabilities in our community together with family and friends in a range of accessible recreational and sport activities.

We deeply appreciate everyone’s support and participation.
