81st Jaffrey Tennis Tourney
The Jaffrey Tennis Club concluded its 81st annual tournament on Aug. 25 after a weekend full of competitive play in the tournament’s 15 divisions.
The tournament, played on private clay courts in Jaffrey during the month of August, saw a number of close matches during finals weekend.
David Delworth won the Men’s Open Singles over Hung Trieu, 6-2, 6-0 for his fourth straight title. Jay Healy defeated Don Burgess, 6-4, 6-2, to take the Men’s 55 Singles, while Burgess won the Men’s 65 singles title over Charlie Krause, 6-2, 6-4.
Burgess and Healy teamed up to win the Men’s 45 Doubles, 6-1, 6-1 over Mark and Dick Fernald. Healy won his third division crown with Chris Creelman in the 45 Mixed Doubles over Burgess and Rebecca Welsh, 6-3, 6-3.
Lois Westerback won a close three set match over Natasha McCarthy for her third straight title in Women’s Singles.
In the Women’s Doubles final Welsh and Betsey Winiecki repeated as champions.
The Mixed Open Doubles title went to Hope and Louis Crosier after a hard fought 6-3, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Welsh and Delworth.
Delworth and Mike Blanchette won their third title in Men’s Open Doubles, 6-3, 6-0, over Don and Clinton Burgess.
Sigmund Winiecki won the round robin format in both the Novice Singles and Junior Singles, while pairing with his brother, Henry, to win the Junior Doubles over Tim and Taylor Burgess.
Wilder Crosier and Taylor Burgess won the Novice Doubles over the Winiecki brothers.
In the Junior/Senior Doubles, Wilder Crosier, playing with his father, Louis, defeated Sigmund Winiecki and Mike Blanchette, 7-5, 6-3.
David Hadaway defeated Dick Fernald for the Men’s 70 Singles title.
