Savage featured in jazz festival
Francestown resident Matt Savage will be featured at the 13th annual Berklee BeanTown Jazz Festival in Boston Sept. 28, being held from noon to 6 p.m.
The event is a free outdoor festival offering national and local jazz, Latin, blues, and soul acts on three stages. Past jazz festivals have drawn 80,000 music fans.
Savage has been connected with some of the biggest names in jazz from the time he was first labeled a “jazz prodigy” at age 8. A 2013 Berklee College of Music graduate, he has performed (on stage and in jam sessions) with the Ellington All Stars, Chaka Khan, Wynton Marsalis, Clark Terry, and Chick Corea, just to name a few.
Savage’s new album, “A Bigger Celebration,” was just released. He will be relocating to New York to pursue a master’s degree at the Manhattan School of Music.
This year, the festival celebrates the theme “Jazz: The Next Generation,” with performances by some of the genre’s most acclaimed up-and-coming alumni artists, including Grammy-nominated trumpeter Christian Scott; and Mike Tucker Trio featuring vibraphonist Warren Wolf.
