Mountaineers post third straight shutout

The Monadnock Mountaineers 7th/8th grade football team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 47-0 victory over the Manchester South Sabers on Sunday.

It was the third straight shutout for the Mountaineers, who will travel to undefeated Windham on Sunday in a rematch of the 2011 state title game. Monadnock has now outscored its opponents, 102-0.

The Mountaineers rushed for 297 yards and five touchdowns, led by Tyler Faulkner’s 77 yards.

Carter Jack Cormier scored the first touchdown of the game on a 53-yard punt return and his second touchdown on a 46-yard run.

Josh Arruda forced a Sabers fumble and returned it 30 yards for a score to go along with his 12-yard rushing touchdown.

Jake Phillips led the way on defense with seven tackles, followed by Daniel Curran’s six tackles and a sack. Cormier also had six tackles, while Arruda and Scott Stanley each had five.
