Mountaineers rout Milford
In their final home game of the season, the Monadnock Mountaineers destroyed the Milford Spartans on Sunday, 50-6. The Mountaineers struck early; after a Milford three-and-out, Josh Arruda took a Milford punt back 45 yards for a touchdown just two minutes into the game. Another punt return TD, this time by Carter Jack Cormier, gave the Mountaineers a 13-0 lead after one quarter.
The lead expanded in the second. Sam West scored on a 33-yard run, then Tyler Faulkner took a Danny Spezzaferri pass 47 yards for the 4th touchdown. TJ Hiott, normally a nose tackle, added one more in the second when he drove in from two yards out with three minutes remaining.
The Mountaineers scored four more times in the second half. Jake Phillips took the opening kick 66 yards for a score, Josh Arruda and Ian LaBelle combined for a safety, TJ Hiott rumbled 43 yards for the 7th touchdown, and Sam West went 63 yards off-tackle for the final touchdown.
Josh Arruda was dominant on defense, registering 14 tackles – 5 for losses and 1 for a sack.
The first place Mountaineers, 6-1 on the season, have one final regular season game remaining – they travel to Stellos Field to take on the 4-2 Nashua Force at noon.
