Colby Whitcomb is a senior cross-country runner at Conant High School. His coach, Erin Kelly, told us he is the “fastest runner on the team.” We caught up with Colby for a quick Q&A.
What’s in your iPod on a long run?
I actually don’t listen to music when I run. I like to listen to what’s going on and I like to think while I run.
What’s the last movie or TV show you watched that you enjoyed?
Iron Man 3. I though that was a pretty cool movie, pretty action packed.
What’s your favorite pre-meet meal?
Spaghetti – most runners like to get some carbs.
Who’s your favorite pro athlete?
I like Usain Bolt. Even though he doesn’t run cross country, he’s still an inspiring sprinter.
Who’s your favorite Conant athlete?
I would say Dane (Seppala), he’s just fun to run with. Him and Conner Hahnl – Conner’s really wise about track, he knows a lot.
If you could change one thing about your school, what would it be?
I would change the atmosphere. I would like people to be more involved with the school.
What’s the best thing you’ve gained from being a high school athlete?
I’ve definitely learned commitment. I’ve learned that running is more about how you live, it’s not just what you do.
Fill in the blank: I wouldn’t be here without:
Coach Kelly. She’s really inspiring. She’s just always been there for us.
(Whitcomb and the rest of the Orioles cross-country team compete next on Saturday at the divisional meets in Manchester.)
