Volunteer Temple Band welcoming new members
The Temple Band, “America’s First Town Band,” is welcoming new members at its weekly Monday evening rehearsals at the Temple Town Hall throughout October and November.
The Temple Band is an all-volunteer, nonprofit community band drawing members, ranging in age from 10 to 85, from the Monadnock and Souhegan Valley regions of southern New Hampshire. There are no dues, fees or auditions required. However two years experience on a concert band instrument is requested and a commitment to try to make at least half of our rehearsals and shows.
All concert band instruments are welcome. The band has a special need for percussion, baritone sax, clarinet, bass clarinet and trumpet.
Of special interest to high school musicians, the Temple Band has a scholarship program for graduating seniors who have made a serious commitment to the band. In 2013, scholarships were awarded to ConVal High School graduate Kathryn Galley and Hollis-Brookline graduate Alyssa Marsan.
Rehearsals are Mondays from 7 to 9 p.m. from October to May. Performances include a December Christmas benefit concert and about 15 summer events scheduled throughout New England.
