Wonderful resident is moving away
To the editor:
I wish to say a hearty ‘Thank You’ to Mary Lanthier, who has recently left Peterborough and relocated to be near her daughter in Louisiana.
I met Mary nearly 5 years ago when she walked into my first Peterborough art gallery endeavor at the corner of Main and Grove, and asked if I might need some help docenting (sitting) in the gallery. We became fast friends and I was to find out that Mary was fast friends with almost everyone I came in contact with over the next several years.
Last year, I opened Trumpet Gallery in Peterborough, and Mary managed the gallery; opening the doors, turning on the lights and music, and greeting the public with a smile and goodness that couldn’t be beat. I came to depend on her expert, trustworthy help and often told her that I couldn’t have made the gallery work without her. In April, I invited Mary to lunch at a local restaurant, just steps from the gallery, yet it took a good half hour to make it back. It seemed that everyone we met, stopped to wish Mary a ‘Happy Birthday’ along the way and to give her a hug.
I am only one of so many who will miss her. I’m sure I am not alone wishing her health and happiness always.
Thank you, Mary, You are a treasure, to be sure.
